About

OBJECTIVE

TERRA is designed to develop and promote ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) solutions to strengthen Turkey's resilience against natural hazards. Funded by the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, the 24-month project will enhance the capacity of ecosystems to reduce disaster risks and increase community resilience, ensuring the integration of Eco-DRR solutions into Turkey's disaster risk management system. The project aims to demonstrate that ecosystem-based approaches are cost-effective and efficient, based on both scientific and traditional knowledge.

TARGET

The goal of the TERRA Project is to create a science- and tradition-based understanding and evidence that demonstrate the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of ecosystem-based (nature-based) disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) solutions. This will support decision-making processes to integrate ecosystem-based approaches into disaster risk management policies and strategies, and promote these approaches at local, regional, and national levels.

These approaches are based on the multifaceted relationship between disasters and ecosystems, focusing on the implementation of "ecosystem management" that systematically utilizes the natural power of ecosystems in disaster risk management. The implementation of these approaches requires the collaboration of ecosystem management and disaster management fields, multi-sectoral cooperation, and multidisciplinary approaches.
