TERRA at a glance
The TERRA Project is being implemented within the framework of the Single-Country Grants Program for Disaster Risk Reduction under the European Union and the Republic of Turkey's co-financing, Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
The project is being carried out by the Republic of Turkey's Ministry of Interior, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) from November 2023 to November 2025.
The project’s goal is to support decision-making processes by creating science- and tradition-based understanding and evidence that demonstrate the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of ecosystem-based (nature-based) disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) solutions. This will integrate ecosystem-based approaches into disaster risk management policies and strategies and promote them at local, regional, and national levels.
The objectives of the project include ;
- Identifying nature-based disaster risk management solutions in selected pilot regions, and creating scientific and community-based evidence and understanding.
- Increasing local and national awareness regarding ecosystem-based disaster risk management.
- Strengthening local, regional, and national capacities for the widespread implementation of ecosystem-based disaster risk management solutions.
